Bellringing

The Cathedral has 14 bells, tenor 35-1-0 cwt in C, including a flat 6th (note B flat), and extra treble (note A), to give a light 10 in F (tenor 14 cwt). We do not normally ring more than 12 bells at one time.

Normal Ringing Times:
Sundays:
8:45 - 9:10
10:25 - 10:55
15:00 - 16:00 (From the last Sunday in October until Easter Day)
17:30 - 18:30 (From Low Sunday until the third Sunday in October)

Tuesday Practice:
19:00 - 21:00

All visiting ringers are very welcome. Our practices range from rounds and call changes on six up to Surprise Maximus. Entrance on practice night is through the West Door (opposite Burger King). This is usually manned between 19:00 & 19:30. It is locked after that.

Cancelled or altered practices are reported on the events page of Campanophile.

Young Ringers, 2007

In the past I’ve reported the long service of some of our older ringers, but now it’s time to celebrate our younger ringers. At a recent Cathedral practice, six ringers all under the age of 13 rang some rounds by themselves for the first time. It’s certainly the first time such a young band (average age just under 12 years old) has rung at Wakefield, and it must one of the youngest bands to ring at any Cathedral. I hope to report further progress in due course!
