The Association of English Cathedrals offers each Church of England Cathedral a peer review, where a team of three external reviewers comes to help us reflect on what’s going well and areas we need to work on. It’s really useful to get an external perspective on our life and work together.
Wakefield Cathedral’s reviewers visited in March 2023. They were particularly impressed by the hard work the cathedral does, despite limited resources and staffing changes:
“The review team was impressed by the wide range of work which Wakefield Cathedral undertakes with such a limited resource. We saw that the Cathedral is very much a small team that works hard together and there is considerable energy and commitment throughout.”
Our work in music, education, and partnerships in the wider community were particularly praised.
There are also areas we need to work on, including training and care for our many wonderful volunteers and a longer-term plan for our former café space, Treacy Hall. Chapter (the Cathedral’s trustee / governing body) and the Senior Management Team will be drawing up an action plan and will publish this in September.
The report of the Peer Reviewers can be accessed below.
UPDATE: The Senior Management Group, after consulting with Chapter (our trustee body), has agreed this Action Plan.
