We are keen to support projects with local groups to put on plays and performances within the Cathedral. Through Heritage Lottery Funding we seek to offer performance groups the opportunity to do site specific work based on the heritage of the Cathedral.
In 2014 we commissioned a play by Kate Griffin which wove together stories of conflict and peace from across the centuries. A group was established to workshop the piece and attracted actors from across the country.
In 2016 we worked with the Theatre Royal Wakefield, who delivered a project based on the Wakefield Mysteries with a mixture of professional and ameteur people, many of them living in and around our city. This was a highly successful production which used the newly developed Cathedral building in evocative and creative ways. You can read more about it HERE.
