Gaia

We were delighted to welcome Gaia to Wakefield Cathedral earlier this summer as part of the Wakefield Council 'Festival of the Earth' campaign.

Between Friday 20 August - Monday 30 August 2021, visitors to Wakefield Cathedral had the opportunity to engage with a stunning seven-metre replica of Earth, created by artist Luke Jerram, featuring detailed NASA imagery, with each centimetre of the internally-lit sculpture representing 18 kilometres of Earth’s surface.

Whether you are wanting to come along simply to see this wonderful artwork floating majestically above the nave or you want to join us at one of our planned events or activities, be sure to pay us a visit this August and experience the awe of Gaia in our beautiful cathedral surroundings.

Gaia has been funded as part of Festival of the Earth, led by Wakefield Council from July to October 2021 across the Wakefield district.
