This summer Gaia took centre stage in the cathedral as the Festival of the Earth came to Wakefield.

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the spectacle of Gaia was a magnificent sight to behold and provided an amazing visual experience for visitors to the cathedral across the ten day period in August (20-30 August 2021).

Hanging in the nave above the Labyrinth, visitors were given the opportunity to see the earth on the grandest of scales, providing the perfect centre piece to the variety of activities going on across the district this summer with an environmental theme.

The Gaia exhibition has now finished at Wakefield Cathedral. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to visit Gaia over the past weeks and also to Wakefield Council for their fantastic support in bringing Gaia to Wakefield.

If you have any pictures from your visit to the cathedral we would love to see them. You can email them to ryan.grint@wakefield-cathedral.org.uk or share them with us online via our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages.
