Clean Up after the Fire

A small electrical fire broke out in March in the crypt – luckily it was spotted and contained very quickly – but the damage – most of which is smoke and soot damage just below the ceiling – is estimated is around £200,000.
Scaffolding will go up on Monday closing off the East End of the Cathedral to allow conservators, Hirst Conservation to start the clean up.Read More
WW1 Fund helped preserve and protect Wakefield Cathedral

The £40 million First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund, launched by the Government in 2014, invited applications from Catholic and Church of England cathedrals to address urgent repair works. The fund prioritised making buildings weatherproof, safe and open to the public as well as ensuring they would be in a safe condition to host acts of remembrance for the centenary of the First World War armistice in 2018.Read More
