Wakefield Cathedral emerges from Lockdown

We warmly welcome the government’s recent announcements about the re-opening of places of worship. We have planned our approach carefully, and with the safety and well-being of our worshippers, visitors, staff and volunteers always at the forefront of our thinking. We will be adopting a phased approach. Phase 1 begins this coming Wednesday 01 July, when the cathedral will be open for individual prayer from 10.00 -15.00. I am delighted that our Bishop, Nick Baines, will be with us at 11.00 on that day to mark the occasion. Public worship will begin on Sunday 12 July, with said celebrations of the Eucharist at 08.00 and 09.15 in the cathedral. This Sunday pattern will continue throughout the rest of July. From Monday 13 July and every weekday, including Saturday, there will be a celebration of Morning Prayer and the Eucharist at 08.00 and Afternoon Prayer at 14.30 in the cathedral. Again, this pattern will continue throughout July. Unless there is a serious surge in cases of Covid-19 over the next few weeks, Phase 2 of the cathedral’s emergence will begin on 01 August. I will be able to announce more details about this in due course.

Our digital ministry will continue as we emerge from lockdown, and you can find details of this HERE.

We look forward to welcoming you very soon.
