Wakefield Cathedral SCIE Audit Report

17 June 2020

In line with the Church of England’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards in its safeguarding procedures, the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is currently undertaking a safeguarding audit of every Church of England cathedral. Wakefield Cathedral’s audit was undertaken over three days at the end of January 2020. You can read the final report here. The Covid-19 lockdown which began in late March has meant a delay in the cathedral’s Action Plan in response to the auditors’ considerations. Work has begun on the Action Plan which we will publish as soon as possible on our website. Meanwhile, I am grateful to the auditors for their care and consideration during the audit process, to Canon Leah Vasey-Saunders, the Chapter Safeguarding Lead, for her work in co-ordinating the audit, and to the many members of the cathedral staff and wider community for their willingness to engage with the auditors in one-to-one interviews and meetings.

The Very Revd Simon Cowling

Dean of Wakefield
