Wakefield Cathedral to re-open its doors for private prayer on Wednesday 01 July

Following recent government announcements, I am delighted to announce that preparations are now well underway for us to open our doors at Wakefield Cathedral so that we are able to welcome people back into the building safely for private prayer and reflection from Wednesday 01 July.

Measures to keep people safe will include the removal of nearly all seating, limiting access to the nave of the cathedral only, hand sanitisers at appropriate points, and new signage to remind people of the importance of physical distancing for the health and safety of all.

Initially the cathedral nave will be open from 10.00 - 15.00. We look forward to welcoming those who wish to light a candle, to say a prayer, or simply to reflect quietly on the unprecedented times we are living through.

The Very Revd Simon Cowling

Dean of Wakefield
