The Revd Ali Dorey - Holy Week Preacher

12 March 2021

Revd Ali Dorey is an Anglican priest who leads quiet days, retreats, and “wild sing” walks and accompanies people using life coaching and mentoring techniques. Within the Church, she also runs training in contextual mission for laity and clergy. She is particularly interested in discovering how Christian faith can be shared with people who are culturally distant from the church.

Ali has lived and worked on urban estates in South Yorkshire for about 20 years, doing a mixture of community development, training and various kinds of ordained ministry. She was Director of Training for Fresh Expressions UK until March 2019. Ali has a BA in Biblical Studies & Music from the University of Sheffield and an MA in Theology & Ministry from Cranmer Hall, St John’s College, Durham. She became a Companion of Contemplative Fire about 8 years ago (see www.contemplativefire.org) and lives with friends in a communal household in the middle of Sheffield. Together, they create spaces of prayer and sanctuary in the city.

Ali enjoys singing in various groups (when not in Covid times!) and playing the piano. She writes poetry and theology, and loves going for walks, watching films and practising contemplation with the help (and sometimes hindrance) of Xena the household cat.
