A few years ago I read Susanna Clarke’s debut novel Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, and I really enjoyed it. The subsequent TV series also caught my attention, as part of it was filmed in my home city of York, including its cathedral, the glorious York Minster in which I was ordained back in 2013. I was delighted, then, to see on the internet recently that Clarke had brought out a second book, Piranesi, late last year. This is a much lighter read, but just as magical, albeit in a different way to Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.Read More
