Wakefield Cathedral - Challenge 25

27 October 2021

We are pleased to have signed up to take on the "Challenge 25" campaign organised by Wakefield District Community Foundation, aimed at raising vital funds to support the fight against Fuel Poverty this winter.

In the Wakefield District there are hundreds of people still living in fuel poverty. People who spend every hour in bed just to keep warm and families that have to choose between eating and heating their homes.

Each year the Fuel Poverty campaign – Give the Gift of Warmth – raises money to help provide winter fuel grants to individuals and families struggling to pay their fuel bills. The campaign raises money through a mixture of donations, pledges, sponsorship and this year Challenge 25!

Challenge 25 sees 25 organisations come together to raise as many multiples of £25 as possible (the average cost of a winter fuel grant) between 01 to 25 November.

Show Your Support

Wakefield Cathedral are delighted to be supporting this initiative in a number of ways:

  • Pay It Forward (Cathedral Kitchen) - if you are visiting our Cathedral Kitchen this November, you will be asked if you would like to round up your final bill and "pay it forward" to support this campaign. So for example, if your bill comes to £5.25, you will be asked if you would like to donate the £.0.75 to charity, bringing your bill total up to £6.00.
  • Personal Fundraising - A big part of this campaign is also about getting staff members involved and we are delighted to have some team members who have already come forward to pledge their own fundraising support. Dean Simon is undertaking saying all 150 Psalms over the 25 day period, donating £2.50 for every multiple of six he gets through; Income & Funding Manager Sam Heritage is running a raffle with friends and colleagues and our Education Officer Gillian Bunn is looking to complete a 25,000 step challenge too!
