The Yorkshire Cathedral Choir Festival - Postponed

1 October 2021

This event has been postponed, apologies for any incovenience.

The choirs of Ripon Cathedral continue over 1300 years of musical heritage dating back to when St Wilfrid introduced a choir from Canterbury Cathedral in the 7th century.

Music continues to be one of the crowning glories, not just of Ripon Cathedral, but of our sister cathedrals of Wakefield and Bradford, in the Diocese of Leeds.

We are delighted then, to host the choristers and lay clerks (adult singers) of Bradford and Wakefield, who will join Ripon Cathedral Choir for the beautiful and uplifting service of choral evensong on Saturday October 9 at 5.30pm. The Yorkshire Cathedrals Festival returns after missing a year in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Directed by Ripon’s Interim Director of Music Peter Wright and accompanied by the dramatic notes of the historic organ, the joint choir will sing Let all the world (Vaughan Williams)and The Lord bless you and keep you (John Rutter) as well as the hymn Angel Voices Ever Singing. The setting of the canticles will be Brewer in D

Today, the musical tradition at Ripon continues to evolve to ensure a high standard of music and provide a fulfilling and life-changing experience for boys and girls who choose to sing with us.
