Changing of the Guard

10 November 2021

Since 2007 Wakefield Cathedral’s Fabric Advisory Committee (FAC) has been chaired by Professor Clyde Binfield. During his time the cathedral has been transformed into the wonderfully refurbished and flexible space we now enjoy.

Clyde has now stepped into a well-earned retirement and is succeeded by Dr Louise Hampson, a Research fellow in the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture, University of York.

The Fabric Advisory Committee held a special lunch for Clyde on 09 November at which he was presented with a painting by Steve Simpson, another member of the FAC.

Speaking on Clyde's retirement, Dean Simon commented, ‘Wakefield Cathedral FAC has benefitted for many years from Clyde’s deep understanding of heritage, his erudition, and his attention to detail; but above all we will miss Clyde’s courtesy and kindness. We are deeply grateful for all he has given to us during his time in office."

From all at Wakefield Cathedral we say thank you and wish Clyde all the very best in retirement.
