Wakefield Cathedral welcomed a group of people from different parts of the diocese to pray, sing the meditative music of Taizé, and find peace through stillness and silence. This uplifting afternoon launched an exciting pilgrimage being led by Bishop Smitha to the international monastic community this summer. Taizé is a community of Christians from different churches based in Burgundy, France. Every year it welcomes tens of thousands of people, especially young adults, from across the world for prayer, Bible study, and conversation together. Generations of people have found it an inspiring place which helps them in their spiritual journeys.
Bishop Smitha, who is leading the pilgrimage on behalf of the Archbishop of York, writes, ‘Prayer begins with our feet and pilgrimage is all about falling in-step with others to as we yearn for God’s kingdom of justice, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Come away to Taizé, set in the beautiful, Burgundy countryside to discover more about how to connect faith and daily life.’
