Dandelions & Double Yellows Art Exhibition
Saturday 10 July - Sunday 15 August 2021

What is it?
We are pleased to welcome Helen Thomas to Wakefield Cathedral to showcase her latest project, Dandelions & Double Yellows. A collection of paintings across the cathedral of pavement plants, encouraging visitors to consider plants in the urban environment and the role they play. Find out more, click here

Wakefield Artwalk

What is it?
Come along between 17:00-21:00 to see a range of artwork on show at the cathedral as part of the wider Wakefield Artwalk.

We will be showcasing the wonderful "Dandelions & Double Yellows" exhibit by Helen Thomas, with informal tours given by the artist at 18:00, 19:00 and 20:00 in the cathedral.

In our Cathedral Kitchen (located in Treacy Hall) we will be welcoming Helen Riddle where you will get the chance to see a selection of Helen's work on display, as well as seeing her stitching her current project, a 7m long wallhanging in free-motion embroidery.

To round it all off, don't forget to check out the wonderful new mural "On The Path To Happiness" recently installed in the alleyway between the cathedral and Westmorland Street. Created by Mohammad Barrangi, the inspiration for the piece comes from Barrangi’s lived experience of immigration and the welcome he received in Wakefield from organisations such as Wakefield Cathedral and The Art House.

"In Conversation..." with Helen Thomas

What is it?
Join us between 18:00-19:00 as
Helen Thomas is joined in conversation with Prof Mike Collier and Dr Judith Tucker, discussing Helen’s project 'Dandelions and Double Yellows'.

Dandelions and Double Yellows is an art, nature and noticing project. This 'walk and talk' event will take place in person at Wakefield Cathedral to coincide with Helen's exhibition of site responsive paintings, which are informed by observation and memory of urban wildflowers.

The Cathedral will be open before the event for attendees to view the exhibition.

Queen's College Chapel Choir Performance

What is it?
We are delighted to welcome the Chapel Choir of Queens' College, Cambridge to give a lunchtime concert at 13:00 at Wakefield Cathedral. Come along for some live music during your dinner hour, no booking required, free entry (donations appreciated).

Gaia

What is it?
This August we will be welcoming the stunning seven-metre replica of planet Earth to Wakefield Cathedral known as Gaia. For further details and bookings please click here.
