  Announcement of new Canon Missioner

07 March 2022

It was announced on Sunday 06 March 2022 that the Revd Dr Philip Hobday, currently Vicar of Earley in the Diocese of Oxford, has been appointed as the next Canon Missioner of Wakefield Cathedral.

The Dean of Wakefield, the Very Revd Simon Cowling, said: “We are delighted that Philip will be joining us as our next Canon Missioner in September and look forward to offering him, along with his family, a warm Yorkshire welcome.

“Philip will bring to the cathedral’s ministry a wide range of gifts and ministerial experience and I very much look forward to working with him in this next phase of our ministry.

Speaking about the appointment, Revd Dr Philip Hobday said: “I’m really delighted to be joining the team and the community at Wakefield Cathedral.

“In these days of uncertainty and anxiety, the words of the cathedral vision remind us we can stand firm in the hope of God’s love because of what God shows us and does for us in Jesus Christ.

“I hope I can play a small part in helping us discover more about the hope we have in Christ, and to help share this hope with the wider city, district, and diocese.

“Having never lived in Yorkshire before, I know I’ve a lot to learn; so I’d be glad of your prayers, and really look forward to meeting you soon.”

Philip will be joining Wakefield Cathedral from September and we will be sharing more information over the coming months.
