We look forward to welcoming you to Wakefield Cathedral soon.
Renowned composer Noel Gay (1898-1954) was born in Wakefield. He is best known for composing the musical Me and My Girl and classic early 20th century songs such as Run Rabbit Run and The Lambeth Walk (of the aforementioned film). Gay had deputised for the choirmaster of Wakefield Cathedral from the tender age of eight, becoming honorary deputy organist at the age of twelve. A blue plaque in his honour is situated outside the West Entrance to the cathedral.
Join us every Tuesday at 13:00 in the cathedral for our FREE Lunchtime Concerts, featuring a wide range of guest performances from singers and musicians through to schools and groups. No booking required, shows last between 30-45 minutes.
