The Cathedral Choir, with its subsections of boys, girls, lay clerks and an adult consort, leads the choral worship at the Cathedral, as well as touring, recording and broadcasting. The Choir is professionally directed and aims for excellence in its music making.
From Choral Evensong and Sunday services through to lunchtime concerts and choir events, please do feel free to visit Wakefield Cathedral and experience the wonderment of cathedral music for yourself.

Renowned composer Noel Gay (1898-1954) was born in Wakefield. He is best known for composing the musical Me and My Girl and classic early 20th century songs such as Run Rabbit Run and The Lambeth Walk (of the aforementioned film). Gay had deputised for the choirmaster of Wakefield Cathedral from the tender age of eight, becoming honorary deputy organist at the age of twelve. A blue plaque in his honour is situated outside the West Entrance to the cathedral.
