The Wakefield Cathedral Mothers’ Union branch reaches out to families in need, both locally, across the diocese and all over the world.
We have an active Mothers’ Union branch at Wakefield Cathedral, which meets on the second Monday of each month in the Education Room (WF1 1PJ), gathering at 13:30 for refreshments and chat before starting the meetings at 14:00 – all welcome.
14:00 Monday 10 February – Talk: The Cathedral Labyrinth
Gillian Bunn the Community Outreach Officer for Wakefield Cathedral has very kindly agreed to give a talk on the cathedral labyrinth and also give members the opportunity to walk the labyrinth. This will be a highly informative and an excellent introduction to the labyrinth. Refreshments served from 13:30.
14:00 Monday 10 March – Talk: Bake Off and Beyond at Chantry Chapel
Karen Wright will give a talk/demonstration at Chantry Chapel including a demonstration from Karen’s book ‘Meals on the Move’, a campsite cooking journey. Books available for sale on the day £15. Karen took part in the 2018 Great British Bake Off, writes each week in the Wakefield Express and is a regular guest on BBC Radio Leeds. All welcome.

Tuesday 25 March – Lady Day Service for Wakefield Area hosted by Outwood Parish Church
Revd Diane and Canon Philip will lead the Service. Julia Tum the Diocesan President has very kindly agreed to attend and will hand out any Long Service Awards. Julia has also very kindly agreed to lead the prayers. The time is to be confirmed. All are welcome.
Monday 14 April – Talk: On the Road to Emmaus in Relation to Chaplaincy
Revd Charlene Smith, Wakefield Cathedral Priest Vicar and Lead Chaplain for the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, has very kindly agreed to talk at our April Meeting which falls in Holy Week. Charlene will be an excellent speaker to help us on our Lent journey.

To support the work of the Dementia Wards at Pinderfields Hospital the branch have also been making ‘twiddle muffs’ and ‘tool aprons’, items which can be given to dementia patients to keep their hands active and busy, providing a wonderful source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation.
The branch are proud to support the work of the Barnsley Women’s Refuge and the Teenage Parent Project, often holding collections and raising funds to provide these vital services with items such as good, toiletries and clothes.
