Peregrines return to Wakefield Cathedral in 2022

Following the completion of essential repair work to the cathedral spire at the start of the year, we are pleased to announce that the peregrines returned to the nesting box on the cathedral tower on the weekend of 12 March 2022.

The first peregrine chick of the year was hatched on Wednesday 04 May 2022.

Since 2015 Wakefield Cathedral has seen Peregrine Falcons nesting on the cathedral tower, with thousands of people from across the world taking a keen interest in the birds’ development year on year.

Thanks to the Wakefield Peregrine Project, the movements and progress of the peregrines and their chicks have been monitored and shared publicly, with 25 chicks hatched over the last six year period.
