Wakefield Cathedral is proud to be associated with the local arts scene in Wakefield and provide a venue and platform for all forms of artistic expression including music, drama and visual arts.

  • Artwalk

Since launching in 2008, Artwalk has offered Wakefield’s creative community opportunities to exhibit their work, meet, and sell to a growing number of visitors.

A bi-monthly evening of art, performance, music, heritage and socialising, Wakefield Cathedral and Treacy Hall are proud to be two of the venues in Wakefield City Centre supporting these events by hosting artwork in our sites.

A free event to attend, alongside the artwork on display we often have family friendly activities to take part in throughout the evening as well.

Visit the Artwalk Wakefield website to find out more and see when the next Artwalk is scheduled to take place.

  • Exhibitions

Throughout the year we also host a variety of exhibitions within the cathedral, ranging from smaller exhibits put together by local up and coming artists through to partnering with Wakefield District Council for large-scale events.

In the summer of 2021, Wakefield Cathedral, in partnership with Wakefield Council, welcomed the colossal exhibition of ‘Gaia’ through its doors. Attracting over 20,000 visitors, the seven-metre wide replica of planet earth was hung precariously in the cathedral’s nave with a plethora of activities carried out throughout the ten-day period.

  • Drama and Performances

As well as providing an ideal space for artwork and exhibitions, Wakefield Cathedral has played host to a number of drama performances, with a flexible space in the nave of the cathedral proving to be the perfect location for such events to take place.

To keep up to date with what performances and exhibitions are coming up, visit the Events section of our website.

  • Displaying your artwork/hiring the space

If you are a keen artist, part of a drama group or looking for an opportunity to exhibit your work we would be happy to speak with you about the opportunities available in partnering with Wakefield Cathedral.
