The Dean announced last week that the Revd Dr Kathryn Goldsmith FRAS has been appointed as the next Precentor of Wakefield Cathedral. Mother Kathryn is currently serving as the Minor Canon for Worship and Liturgy at Bristol Cathedral but knows West Yorkshire well: she studied for the priesthood at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, and served her curacy in the Wakefield Episcopal Area of the Diocese of Leeds, during which she spent some time at Wakefield Cathedral.
Speaking last week Kathryn said, “Having been seconded to the cathedral for the final six months of my curacy in 2022 I am excited to be returning as Precentor. It has been a privilege to have had oversight of the worship, music, and liturgy in Bristol Cathedral over the last year and I am looking forward to bringing that experience to my new role and to helping to grow and support the cathedral community and its worship into the future.”
Dean Simon added, “I am delighted that Mother Kathryn has accepted the invitation to join our team. She will bring a lively sensibility to our liturgy and worship, as well as rich experience of the church at national, diocesan, cathedral, and parish level. As a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, Kathryn will also bring an important theological perspective to our team”.
