We are thrilled to announce that 10 people have chosen to support the cathedral for our annual abseil fundraiser, including our very own Events Officer, Jess! We are incredibly grateful to all of them and are thankful for their bravery and their fundraising.
You can support some of our abseilers through the links below.
Join us on Saturday 21 September between 10:00 and 16:00 to encourage and congratulate our amazing abseilers as they take this huge step to support the cathedral.
Fancy a go yourself? There’s still time to sign up. Even if you’re not fundraising, anyone aged 13 or over in good health can take part.

For anyone who knows me well, you’ll know I am TERRIFIED of heights (and I mean truly terrified of heights – the first floor of the Ridings makes me feel a little sick!). But despite this, I’ve only gone and decided to abseil down the tower of Wakefield Cathedral…
Wakefield Cathedral does fantastic work all year around supporting communities within the Wakefield District and it’s a place that is so special to me – it feels like home.
So if you have a quid or two to spare please do donate. And even better, if you fancy a laugh on the 21st September and to see me plummet whilst a funny shade of green (🤢), please do come along and support me and others who are taking on this challenge from 10am.
Truly terrified!!! 😨
Support JessOn Saturday 21st September, I’ll be climbing the Wakefield Cathedral tower via 170 internal narrow medieval stone steps.
Once at the top, I’ll abseil back down (50mtr – 164ft).
Donations will go towards the upkeep of Wakefield Cathedral.
Support MirjamI will be accessing the cathedral tower platform via 170 internal narrow medieval stone spiral stairs.
Then abseiling 164 ft high, or 50 metres. 😱
Donations will go towards upkeep of Wakefield cathedral
