Non-Executive Chapter Member
Wakefield Cathedral is seeking to recruit a new member to the Cathedral Chapter.
The cathedral is a registered charity, and as such the Chapter functions as our Board of Trustees, overseeing the cathedral’s good governance, especially its finances and administration. Non-executive members of Chapter play a vital role contributing to the healthy and dynamic functioning of cathedral life, providing invaluable input, constructive challenge and support to the Dean and Management Team, including on the safeguarding, health and safety, and wellbeing of staff, volunteers, visitors and worshippers.
We are particularly seeking candidates with digital skills and experience in marketing and fundraising, though experience of strategic planning, mission and outreach and environmental issues would also be welcome.
Wakefield Cathedral is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive Chapter that reflects the richness of the communities we serve. We recognise that certain groups have been historically underrepresented in governance and leadership roles within the Church, and we actively encourage individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to consider applying. Our mission to be a welcoming and life-giving place extends to all, and we seek Chapter members who bring different perspectives, skills, and lived experiences to enrich our work. If you share our vision and values and have a heart for service, we invite you to walk alongside us in shaping the future of Wakefield Cathedral.
Applicants may be lay or ordained, must be eligible to serve as trustees under the Charities Act, must be 16 or over and an actual communicant of the Church of England or a communicant member of a mainstream Christian church.
Wakefield Cathedral takes its responsibility for the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults very seriously and their welfare is paramount in all areas of cathedral life. Chapter members must complete relevant Church of England safeguarding training, complete an annual Confidential Declaration, and obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. Details of our safeguarding policies and practices can be found by following this link https://www.wakefieldcathedral.org.uk/safeguarding/
This is a voluntary role, which brings an enriching opportunity to be involved with a dynamic and varied organisation. Previous experience as a charity trustee is welcome but not essential.
