Update on the Appointment Process for the next Dean of Wakefield
Canon Alison Dean and Canon Jane Evans were pleased to update the cathedral congregations on the process for selecting our next Dean. Emphasising the national nature of the selection process, they reported that a number of applications had been received in response to the advertisement. These will now be considered by the selection panel as they decide whom to interview. Interviews will take place in early- September and it is expected that the new Dean may be announced in November. Obviously, this is a confidential process so the details which can be given are limited. However, your continued prayers are valued, for the candidates, the selection panel, and for the cathedral staff and community as they navigate this time of change.
The selection of a Dean in the Church of England is recommended by an appointment panel. Ours includes:
Canon Derek Twine (Chair, appointed by the Archbishop)
The Bishop of Leeds
Canon Irving Warnett (appointed by the Diocese of Leeds Board)
The Revd Canon Jude Smith (elected by the College of Canons)
The Dean of Peterborough (external member, appointed by the Archbishop)
Canon Alison Dean and Canon Jane Evans (elected by the Cathedral Chapter)
Helen Averill from the national senior appointments team is a non-voting member and adminsters the process.
Please pray during this time, that God will guide us in finding the right person.
Any questions or concerns can be sent to us via the Cathedral Office on 01924 373 923 or email jane.evans@wakefield-cathedral.org.uk.
