A partnership cafe in the heart of Wakefield

22 December 2025

We’re delighted to share some wonderful news!

From February 2026, Treacy Hall – formerly the Cathedral Kitchen – will once again be open and welcoming visitors as a café. We are thrilled to announce that Age UK Wakefield District will be operating the space as a café, following the signing of a license with the cathedral.

This is not just a commercial venture, but a mission-led partnership. The café will reflect Age UK Wakefield’s commitment to promoting the wellbeing of older people, helping make later life more fulfilling and enjoyable, and championing the valuable contribution older people make to society, alongside Wakefield Cathedral’s values of being joyful, generous and inclusive.

Acting Dean, Canon Philip Hobday, comments:

“Treacy Hall is a much-loved meeting place at the centre of our city. We are thrilled that, working with Age UK Wakefield, we can now open it even more regularly as a place for good coffee and good conversations – a key part of Wakefield Cathedral’s mission to be open to everyone and to bring together people and groups from across the district.”

More details, including the opening date, will be shared in the New Year. For now, we look forward to hopefully seeing you all for a cuppa and a slice of cake before too long!

With sincere thanks to Paula Bee, Chief Executive of Age UK Wakefield, Brenda Wardle, Programme Manager, Jess Riley our Acting Development Officer, together with the Trustees of Age UK Wakefield, and the Chapter of Wakefield Cathedral for enabling this exciting and meaningful partnership.
