MU Cafe Restarts Soon!

Mothers’ Union Friday Meet Up Café restarts!

In October 2023, Mothers’ Union launched a pilot Friday morning café in Treacy Hall. Since its inception, the café has provided a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for members of the public to drop in for a hot drink, a biscuit and friendly conversation. Simple food items are also available for a small charge. Donations received support the Mothers’ Union Holiday Project, which provides vital assistance to families experiencing hardship.

Over a nine-month period during 2025, the café raised just over £1,000. These, funds were shared between the Diocesan Mothers’ Union Holiday Project and Wakefield Cathedral, contributing towards the use of Treacy Hall.

The Friday Meet Up Café is staffed by members from three Mothers’ Union branches within Wakefield city centre. Throughout the year, we have also been delighted to welcome guest groups, including Wakefield Council Foster Carers and the Community Care4Us Choir, who have generously provided entertainment. These occasions have been warmly received and have added greatly to the sense of community and wellbeing.

Operating Partnership – Moving Forward into 2026:

Wakefield Age UK and Mothers’ Union are pleased to be entering into a new operating partnership, sharing the use of Treacy Hall as part of a mission-led approach to community outreach and wellbeing.

From 17th February 2026, Wakefield Age UK will operate their café from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.00am to 3.00pm. Mothers’ Union will join this provision on Fridays from from 27th February, 10.00am to 12.15pm, with Midday Prayers held at 12.00 noon as part of the Mothers’ Union Meet Up Café.

This partnership reflects the shared values of Wakefield Age UK, Mothers’ Union and Wakefield Cathedral in offering hospitality, connection and support to the wider community.

Both Wakefield Age UK and Mothers’ Union look forward to welcoming visitors for a cuppa, conversation and companionship in Treacy Hall.
