We are delighted to announce that the Cathedral has been awarded £22,650 by the Cathedral Music Trust through its Cathedral Music Support Programme.
The generous grant is a significant investment in the choral life of the Cathedral and will help us support our choristers, strengthen our choral provision and continue creating opportunities for children and young people to discover and participate in cathedral music.
Wakefield Cathedral is one of 27 cathedrals and churches receiving grants this year as part of Cathedral Music Trust’s £438,955 investment in cathedral music across the UK.
Dean Philip said:
“Singing together not only contributes to sustaining a precious, living tradition of English sacred music and worship – it also helps build skills, confidence, friendships, and faith. We are so grateful to the Cathedrals Music Trust for this wonderful award. Their generous support will make a real difference to the work we do with an increasingly diverse group of children and young people, generating creativity and aspiration in areas of notable deprivation. We are deeply grateful for the Trust’s confidence in our work and for our partnership in making cathedral music flourish for generations to come.”
We will celebrate this wonderful award at Choral Evensong on Sunday 27th September at 3.30pm, and everyone is warmly invited to join us as we give thanks for this generous support and celebrate the place of choral music in the life of Wakefield Cathedral.
