Gift Day – 30 October 2022

26 October 2022

Regular members of our worshipping community will have seen that we will be holding a Gift Day this coming Sunday, 30 October, which we are keeping as All Saints Sunday and our patronal festival.

Our giving as Christians is an acknowledgement that all we have comes from God. It is also a response to God’s love shown to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our generosity bears fruit through the ministry of the cathedral through which we serve our city, district and diocese in many ways.

I am aware how challenging times are, not only for the cathedral but for everyone. I am also aware that many of you in our worshipping community already give as much as you are able: this sacrificial giving is deeply appreciated.  The Gift Day is not an exercise in begging for more, but an opportunity for us to review our giving as a spiritual practice. We will be giving out envelopes for gifts on the day, but there will also be pledge forms in the service sheet.  I ask those of you who worship regularly to consider prayerfully what you might be able to pledge to the life and mission of the cathedral: you might simply pledge to continue your regular giving at the same level, or to increase your regular giving, or even give consistently for the first time. Or it might be that you are unable to increase your financial giving at the present time, but that you are willing to consider leaving a gift in your Will or giving your time as one of our volunteer team. Above all, we encourage you to pray for the flourishing of God’s work at Wakefield Cathedral.

If you are not able to be with us for the service (and I know that Catch-Up has a reach well beyond Wakefield!) but would like to make a gift or review your giving, please contact the cathedral office: admin@wakefield-cathedral.org.uk

As we reflect on ‘the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints’ please give thanks for all we have inherited at Wakefield Cathedral and pray for our common future under God.

With prayers and all good wishes,
Dean Simon
