Honorary cathedral role for Leeds parish priest

19 November 2025

Dave Ho Young appointed as Honorary Canon

The Acting Bishop of Leeds, in consultation with the Acting Dean of Wakefield, has appointed The Revd David Ho Young as an Honorary Canon of Wakefield Cathedral.  We are delighted Dave will be joining our Cathedral community.  Honorary Canons (up to six lay people and twelve clergy) are appointed by the Bishop to recognise their outstanding contribution to the Diocese and / or Cathedral.

Dave is Team Rector of Moor Allerton and Shadwell, leading four churches in North Leeds. One of these, St Barnabas’ Alwoodley, has a growing congregation of Hong Kongers – and his ministry here has been especially meaningful as the only priest of Hong Kong Chinese heritage in our diocese.

Beyond parish life, Dave is Area Dean of North West Leeds, a trustee of Simeon’s Trustees, and part of the Teahouse network for Chinese heritage clergy. He is also helping explore a new link between our diocese and the Diocese of Hong Kong Island.

Dave first came to Leeds in 1999 and, apart from training at Cranmer Hall, has ministered in the city ever since. He is married to Jo, diocesan youth and children’s adviser, and they have two children.

We are delighted to
