Formed in 1917 in South Yorkshire, Grimethorpe Colliery Band is one of the UK’s most celebrated brass ensembles, known internationally for its rich heritage and exceptional musicianship. The band rose to global prominence following its appearance in the acclaimed film Brassed Off, and continues to perform at major events including the BBC Proms and the Olympic Games.
This special concert offers audiences the chance to experience their powerful and expressive sound live within the stunning surroundings of Wakefield Cathedral. With a programme of much-loved brass band repertoire and entertaining favourites, it promises to be an uplifting evening for music lovers of all kinds.

Wakefield Cathedral will host a special performance by The Great British Film Orchestra, presenting a live orchestral celebration of the music of James Bond.
Set within the magnificent surroundings of the cathedral, this concert will showcase some of the most iconic music ever written for film. Featuring a chamber orchestra and outstanding vocalists, the programme brings together unforgettable themes and songs from across six decades of the Bond franchise.
Audiences can expect to hear music made famous by legendary performers including Dame Shirley Bassey, whose powerful renditions of Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker defined the classic Bond sound, alongside more recent favourites such as Adele‘s Oscar-winning Skyfall, Sam Smith‘s Writing’s On the Wall, and Billie Eilish‘s No Time To Die.
With sweeping orchestration, dramatic brass and evocative vocals, the concert captures the glamour, excitement and atmosphere that have made the Bond soundtracks a defining part of cinematic history.
