If you prefer to make your donation via the post, please send any cheques to Wakefield Cathedral Centre, 8-10 Westmorland Street, Wakefield, WF1 1PJ, made payable to Wakefield Cathedral (Please do not post cash).
It costs £2,604 per day to run the cathedral (that’s £18,228 every single week!) We are only able to operate thanks to the kind support of generous supporters, fundraising efforts and grants – every penny really does make a difference.
Wakefield Cathedral is open for everyone, for free, for three hundred and sixty five days a year.
It costs £2,604 a day to do this.
Wakefield Cathedral is one of the least well-resourced English cathedrals. With no significant endowments or reserves – and situated in an area of real need – we face ongoing financial challenges.
And yet, we continue to offer a great deal, for very little.
What Your Support Helps Us Do:
Your generosity helps us:
Regular Giving Makes a Big Difference:
As a cathedral, our congregation and community are more dispersed than a typical parish church. That makes regular giving all the more vital to our long-term sustainability.
Whether you’re local or live further afield, visit regularly or simply value what we represent, your support matters.
Set Up a Regular Donation:
The easiest way to give is through the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) – a secure, flexible way to give by Direct Debit.
Why choose PGS?
Set up your regular gift via the Parish Giving Scheme
Or go to parishgiving.org.uk and search for Wakefield Cathedral, or use our Parish Code: 460646004
Other Ways to Give:
Prefer to use a paper form, or discuss other giving options (such as standing orders)?

Become a Patron of Wakefield Cathedral and become part both of our history and our future.
The cathedral is the oldest building in Wakefield, sitting at the heart of the city and the reason for our city status. Its beauty is something to be cherished by us all.
It costs more than £2,500 a day to maintain our beautiful building, run our music and education programmes and remain open every day as a place of welcome for all. We receive no funding from the government or diocese, relying on the generosity of voluntary donations whilst working hard to develop other sources of income.
By becoming a Patron you will not only be helping us to meet those costs and enabling us to safeguard our heritage for the future, but you will be joining a group of likeminded people who care about the City and District of Wakefield, and value the place of the cathedral in its past and future.
We have tiered Individual/Joint Patron opportunities as well as Corporate Patron opportunities.
Music is central to the life of the cathedral and being part of it as a chorister can be a life transforming experience. It’s an opportunity that we would like to be on offer to children from any background across the Wakefield District.
By sponsoring a chorister, you will enable our choral musical tradition to continue to the highest level, whilst providing the lifelong benefits of being a chorister to a new generation of children.
Your gift of £20 per month, £60 per quarter, or £240 per year will help to cover the basic costs of one chorister and will sustain and develop the music department in the long-term.
Signing up to sponsor a Chorister couldn’t be easier. Simply use the online giving form above, select Fund option as ‘Sponsor a Chorister’ and then decide how you would like to make your payments (either £20 per month or a one-off payment of £240). Complete the payment process and you are all good to go!
Could you consider remembering Wakefield Cathedral by leaving a gift in your will?

To find out more about leaving a gift in your will speak with your chosen solicitor or email us on admin@wakefield-cathedral.org.uk and a member of our team will be in touch.
