We have a new Eco group at the cathedral! Kiran, Sue, Mark and I have been meeting over the last couple of months to get our heads around the challenge of lowering our carbon footprint at the cathedral and how we can fulfil the mission of being active in loving creation.

Wakefield Cathedral has been proud to partner with Camphill, Wakefield’s specialist college for SEND students, for a number of years, and earlier this week we were pleased to grow our partnership once again thanks to a little bit of gardening work.

Nine-year old Lily-Rose is one of the newest members of Wakefield Cathedral’s ever-growing choir, having joined just four months ago, a role which is somewhat in contrast to her second musical hobby – learning how to mix the decks at the family pub just a stone’s throw away…

If you listen to Desert Island Discs on Radio 4, you will know that at the end of the programme every guest is invited to nominate a luxury that they would take if they were cast away on a desert island. My luxury (probably not allowable!) would be two cricket teams (with two umpires) playing an endless succession of five day test matches on a decent pitch.

On Thursday 23 June, Wakefield Cathedral will warmly welcome Revd Colin Baldwin, who is taking part in Stage Two of his mammoth challenge of cycling the English Cathedrals, raising funds to build a new centre by his church in the city of Southend-on-Sea.

I was very privileged to be able to serve my curacy in the beautiful market town of Pickering, half way between Malton and Whitby, in the Diocese of York. Pickering’s Parish Church contains some impressive mediaeval wall paintings
